Beaches & Activities
There are a range of beaches and things to do within a few km of Tesseris Filoi. Below is information about our closes beaches and just a taste of the activities on offer. We recommend you jump in your car/moped and go and explore the island as there’s lots more to discover!
See map for locations.
Beaches
Agathopes, Poseidonia (approx. 5 mins drive)
One of the closest beaches to the house, Agathopes is popular and in the summer months full of sunbeds available to rent from either De La Gracia or Ono restaurants - which both overlook the beach and provide food and drink service to their respective areas. Great for kids as the sea remains shallow. Limited parking is available but arrive early (before 10am). Book sunbeds at least a month in advance. 2023 indicative peak season prices:
ONO, EUR50/day for 2 sunbeds (2023) Tel: +30 693 856 5865
De La Gracia, EUR30/day for 2 sunbeds (2023) Tel: +30 2281 045295
Finikas, Poseidonia (approx. 5 min drive)
The village of Finikas is nearby, with a beach that’s a mix of sand and fine pebbles. It is the closest beach to Tesseris Filoi and family-friendly, with a few tavernas and bars and a small marina for sailing boats. It can be quite windy and not the best for swimming, but is perfect for wind-surfing which is available.
Komito, South West coast (approx. 5 min drive)
Komito is another popular beach, about 1.5km from Poseidonia going south. There is a small beach bar which plays music, sunbeds available to rent, and also water-sports available including kayaking, canoeing and jetskis (varies depending on availability). Book a few days in advance.

Achladi, South coast (approx. 15min drive)
Smaller than the more popular beaches and hidden down a track from the main road, Achladi is a lovely sandy beach that might be a bit quieter than the rest. It also has a great restaurant right on the shore.
Kini, West coast (approx. 10 minute drive)
The seaside village resort of Kini and the beach are very popular, particularly with families. A fabulous spot for sunset views. The water is shallow and clear, the sand is fine and there are plenty of tavernas along the beach front. If you’re looking for a quiet option just by Kini, Lotos beach is close by.
Galissas, West coast (approx. 15min drive)
Galissas is one of Syros’ biggest and most popular beaches, with sand and beautiful clear water. It is perfect for snorkelling and sunset views, with a lovely cafe at one end serving a menu of tasty food and drinks. On the road off the beach are a number of small shops / boutiques with clothes, flip flops and swimsuits. Galissas is also home to one of the islands 'classic' hilltop churches, only a 10min uphill hike off the beach, with stunning views from the top. Keen explorers can find an ancient monk's dwelling built into one of the local caves. And in the cove over the other side of the church is a naturist beach... you have been warned!
Delfini, West coast (approx. 15min drive)
Delfini beach is unassuming and relaxed and a good option if you’re looking for something quieter than Kini. It is sheltered from the wind, only one side of the beach has sunbeds and a small cafe serves food and drinks. The waters are calm and clear, ideal for snorkelling. Delfini is one of our favourite beaches on Syros but note, much of the track to drive there is 'off-road'! It is the northern-most beach on the West coast which is accessible by car.
Other beaches to explore include Megas Gialos (south) and Vari beach (south east). There are also a number of small coves / beaches at the northern end of the West coast that are only accessible by boat - the seas can be very choppy on windy days, but we highly recommend exploring this part of the island, conditions permitting.
Activities
Boat Trips
More and more boat companies are opening up on Syros. We’ve listed a few options below but it’s worth looking into, as there may be other options to consider. The island is small so all the marinas are within a 15 minute drive. Finikas Marina is the closest- only 5 minutes in the car, so when you book always ask if you can start your trip from there.
Syros Adventures, www.syrosadventures.gr
Syros Adventures offer a range of services to get around the island. Daily departures from various beaches will take you to less accessible parts of the island. They also offer group sightseeing trips, with a fixed itinerary, or private day trips where you can plan a unique experience with them.

Click&Boat, www.clickandboat.com
This is a website we’ve used before to find a day charter boat, with a skipper. If you have the correct licenses you may also be able to find a self-sail boat available for a day trip, or longer. We had a particularly fun day on the below boat, with the most delicious lunch provided and made using fresh fruit and vegetables from the owners garden! Highly recommend:
