Supermarkets & Other retail
There are a range of shops within a few km of Tesseris Filoi. Below are a selection of nearby places to pick up food and other provisions for a short stay. For more upscale boutique shopping, you can't beat a trip into Ermoupolis - head for the pedestrianised center of town and shop 'til you drop.
See map for locations.
Shops
Please note that shops on Syros tend to close at 2.30pm (weekdays) and reopen around 5.30pm, although supermarkets usually stay open all day.
Most shops are closed on Sundays and public holidays.
AB Supermarket – 10 minute drive
Good size supermarket with most groceries you would need and a fresh meat counter. Take a euro for the trolley!
There are public bins here for customers to dispose of household waste (sorted by glass, paper, metal, plastic and organic/food)
Now open on Sundays.
Finikas - 5 minute drive
Finikas village is close, and has a good range of shops if you don’t want to drive far:
Kritikos, Finikas
Closest supermarket to the house, smaller than AB but has all the essentials.
Press & Market, Finikas
A short drive away from Kritikos, this minimart has most things except fruit and vegetables. It also sells beach/pool toys, swimming and snorkelling gear, flipflops etc. (located in a row of shops including an upmarket deli/patisserie, a butcher and a pharmacy)
Pharmacy, Finikas
A few doors down from the Press & Market minimart is an excellent pharmacy run by a friendly Italian man and his Greek wife who both speak very good English.
Bakery/Patisserie, Finikas
Next door to Press & Market minimart is this upmarket deli, offering wine, cheese, ice-cream and baked goods / pastries.
Butcher, Finikas
Located next to the pharmacy is a well stocked butcher offering all kinds of fresh meat and sausages; note, staff do not speak English but can usually recognise meat types (lamb, beef etc)
4All Convenience Store - 3min drive
A small but well stocked local kiosk / newsagents - good for replenishing essentials like milk, coffee, bread, pizza, drinks but not for fresh food and choice is limited.
Fish market - Ermoupolis - 15min drive
On Chiou street in the centre of Ermoupolis you'll find a number of fish (and meat) stalls selling fresh seafood caught that morning - go early to beat the crowds and snap up the best of the catch, the stock sells out fast here!

Printezis Department Store - 2min drive
On the road towards Agathopes beach you will pass this Aladdin's cave of a department store. It is mostly used by local tradesmen for building supplies and furniture, but upstairs is a delightful boutique with a small selection of summer clothes, childrens toys & games, homewares, gifts and keepsakes to remind you of Syros once you get home!
Opposite the entrance to Printezis there are public bins - the closest to the villa - for disposal of household waste (sorted by glass, paper, metal, plastic and organic/food).
Ermoupolis
Ermoupolis is the capital of Syros and the largest town in the Cyclades, with beautiful neoclassical buildings, lots of shops and entertainment on offer. In summer there are lots of cultural activities, including the famous Festival of the Aegean, (2 weeks in July), and a wonderful outdoor theatre that often shows arthouse movies. It is well worth spending a day strolling around the town to explore, before heading up to the fortress village of Ano Syros, located above Ermoupoli. Take in the stunning views and winding, steep cobbled paths, and perhaps stop for lunch at one of the many cafes or restaurants.
